Weaving WorkshopsI am teaching three weaving courses, all suitable for beginners. They build on each other but can be taken individually too.
Introduction to Creative Weaving is inspired by freestyle weaving and tapestry techniques. Perfect to create expressive decorative textures, and 3D effects like knots and fringes for wall hangings. Simple pattern for frame loom is a little more structured, and will show that weaving on a small loom can create wonderful items. Perfect for coasters or phone pouches. Dress your own loom is a bit more technical and gives you all the knowledge you need to weave a larger piece like a bag or a scarf. |

Workshops will be running again from April 2024 onwards :)
A fun introduction to weaving for beginners, or those who've had a little experience in the past. I will teach some basic weaving techniques, which can be used to make small items like phone pouches and little bags. I will also teach a free and creative approach to weaving, including fringes, loops and creating interesting textures. You will have a chance to experiment with a variety of yarns, including local wool, organic and bast-fibre yarns including nettle yarns. You will take home a small piece of fabric for a wall-hanging as well as a workshop hand-out. Simple pattern for frame loom is a little more structured, and will show that weaving on a small loom can create wonderful woven pieces, suitable for small items like coasters or even small cushions. Just playing with colours in simple weaves can create an amazing variety of beautiful fabrics. A very clear and concise hand-out will make sure that you can play with this pattern at home. All patterns are covered in Jane Patrick's 'The Weavers Idea Book', which will be available for you to look at. Dress your own loom is a little more technical and gives you all the knowledge you need to weave a larger piece like a bag or a scarf. You will learn how to measure your yarn, calculate it for a given length and put it on the loom. All tools and techniques will be clearly explained, and of course we'll do some fun weaving too :) You can either work towards your own ideas or be given a small practice project. Again, a clear hand-out you can take away will help you to carry on with your projects (s) at home. Each course is an afternoon course from 1.30pm - 5.00pm. Each course costs £40 per person. All materials provided. If you book more than one course a discount of 15% applies. Looms (40 x 30 cm) will be available for purchase for £20. On display: Books: I will have a few books with me for you to look at, e.g. Jane Patrick, The Weaver Idea Book, Laura Strutt's Modern Weaving, and Inventive Weaving on a Little Loom, by Syne Mitchell. Weave samples: I will also have a few samples woven on a frame loom as well as a rigid heddle loom. In addition I will share samples from my MA portfolio in (sustainable) textiles. Looms: I will have a variety of small looms on display for demonstration and experimentation. |
